Let’s reframe some shit! Because that’s really what we are dealing with here...
Did you look in the mirror this morning and see some dark circles? That’s probably because you were up last night doing something fun… I hope… or you were up at night spending your precious sleeping time on someone that you love very, very much. How lucky you are to have someone you love that much. Have a cute little shelf under your belly? Maybe that’s because you love someone so much you actually allowed a near-stranger to slice your body open to give them life. Stretch marks? Yep. Because you gave another human permission to literally live inside of your body. Wrinkles on your face? Think about all of the times that your kids made you belly laugh. I don’t know about you, but I would trade wrinkles for belly laughs any day of the week! Maybe some of them are frown lines… refer to number one above. Frown lines are caused because you love someone or some-thing so deeply that it causes you to worry for them.
We spend a lot of our time looking in the mirror and criticizing what we see, when what we really need to be doing is looking in the mirror and acknowledging what a bad-ass we really are! So, next time you look in the mirror… and for the rest of the week… say either out loud, or in your mind, "Hello gorgeous!" or "Good morning good-looking," or "You effing rock!"... Whatever floats your boat. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you that you are beautiful. That is your job. Tell yourself!
And while we were on the subject… Don’t wait for someone else to buy you flowers. Buy them for yourself!
I have started a fun little tradition when I’m at the store sometimes. I will buy a bouquet of flowers and give them to the checker and ask him or her to hand them to the next mom that looks like they’re a little frazzled and could use a little pick me up. Don’t tell my secret… but maybe adopt it as your own. We are amazing humans that have brought other amazing humans into the world. Let’s celebrate ourselves and each other.
